Barbara Jean Maley (Abbott)

WALLINGFORD, Conn. – Barbara (Maley) Abbott, age 67, died on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in Branford Connecticut Hospice after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Patten, ME, she was the daughter of the late John F. Maley and Viola (Shields) Maley.

Barbara was a graduate of Platt High School in 1965 and Bryant and Stratton College in Boston. She worked as a legal secretary for many years at the law firm of Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, and Dow in New Haven, Conn.

She was very close to her parents. Her dad was always there in a time of need whether it be as a strong role model for her children or for a great home cooked meal. Her mom was a source of strength for her at any time; she was always there when Barb needed someone to talk to.

Especially happy times for Barbie was whenever she visited her Aunt Connie and Uncle Dana Wilson, Aunt Irene and Uncle Ken Lord, and her many cousins, it was always a special time for the entire family. Barbie felt a strong connection to Maine, moving back briefly when she was older to be closer to her Maine family.

She is survived by her children, Daisy Abbott and Timothy Abbott Jr. and his wife, Nita Abbott, and their children, Oliver Abbott, Simon Abbott, Jena Abbott and Daisy’s child, Callum Sletcher. She is also survived by her uncle, Dana Wilson; and cousins, Robert Little, Kathyrn Howes and Jeffrey Lord.

A celebration of her life will be held 1-4 p.m. August 10, at Daisy Abbott’s home. Please email Tim Abbott at tnobabbott@gmail.com for address. A graveside service will be held in October of this year in Patten.
